Being important for a special biological system, our park brags a wide reach fauna, from normal tropical birds to uncommon cavern creatures that are interesting visitors in different areas of South America. One of them is the paca, a peculiar combination of a mouse and a pig occupying the region of Aktun-Chen. In the Tupi language, ‘paca’ signifies ‘alert’ which provides us with a very smart thought of its personality and propensities. Quiet, agile and meek, this odd looking rat isn’t not difficult to recognize out in the open.

Captivating realities about the paca

The heaviness of a grown-up paca arrives at 6 to 12 kg. Its body is covered with a coarse fur, dim brown on the back and yellowish on the underside, with a few lines of white spots at the edges. Add a couple of durable legs finishing with foot like hooks, a long unshaven gag and a short bald tail to finish the image.

Pacas have an alternate number of toes on their appendages. While there are only four of them on their front feet, the rear feet are ‘outfitted’ with a sum of five digits – three long center toes and two little side toes – for better weight dissemination.

These creatures carry on with a single existence. During the day, guys and females dwell independently in their tunnels and caverns where they stow away from the intensity and keep their supplies. Around evening time, when the temperature goes down, they should be visible associating an in a little normal area.
